Packs Racing has finished pre-season testing and conducted their final team meeting in preparation for the Super Cup Stock Car Series opening event April 28 in Columbus, Ohio.
Testing was held at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassass, VA, where team owner J. J. Pack put the first laps on Stephen Cox's #21 Boschett Timepieces/McGunegill Engines Chevy. Cox was in Indianapolis preparing to host a television show for Velocity and was unable to be at the test.
Pack reported the car to be a bit tight in the center of the corner, but otherwise solid and drivable. The team will revisit the suspension before the Performance Fiberglass 100 this weekend at Columbus Motor Speedway. The initial 40-lap run with the new McGunegill engine proved more than satisfactory. The powerplant produced plenty of torque and never broke 200 degrees despite the 80-degree weather.
The #16 car of J. J. Pack was also tested with good results. Both cars are fully prepped for the season opener.
Cox's schedule calls for him to be finished shooting on location north of Chicago in time to be in Columbus a day prior to the event. The additional time will be spent in putting a qualifying setup on the car and getting fitted into the seat.
The Super Cup series has officially accepted the team's application to place Cox into the Rookie of the Year program. He will also compete for the Super Cup Challenge title and the overall Super Cup series title.
