Do you remember me?” the strange man asked insistently. “Your show gave me something to live for. I've been waiting for this all year. You told me to come back, and I want you to know I made it.”
 
We were halfway through NBCSN's live coverage of the Mecum collector car auction in Anaheim last Friday when a middle aged man walked up to me with tears in his eyes. “Do you remember me? Do you?” Honestly, no, I didn't. But as he told his story it began to come back to me.

Voila! After four hours of enjoyable motoring, one Starbucks Refresher and half a can of barbecue Pringles, I arrived in St. Charles, Illinois for last weekend's Mecum auto auction in abundantly high spirits. I'm telling you, driving is the only way to go. Not once was I ordered to put my seat back in the upright and locked position, nor was I scanned, groped or violated.

More than 1,100 collector cars will be offered at auction during Mecum’s Second Annual Dallas Auction, to be held Sept. 5-8, 2012 at the Dallas Convention Center.
