Indianapolis racing driver Stephen Cox sits in third position going into this weekend’s Super Cup Stock Car Series Southern Division championship event at Dominion Raceway in Virginia, but he needs help to win the title.
“All I can do is go for the pole and try to lead every lap and win the race, then see what happens,” Cox said. “If either of the top two cars finish in the top five, the math doesn’t work. We need to win and we need some luck.”
Cox’s STA-BIL Brand Fuel Stabilizer #21 has been fast all season, finishing on the podium in three of his last five events and coming through the field to lead laps at the the most recent event, but he hasn’t been lucky. He’s still looking for his first win of 2018 as the oval season closes this weekend.
Super Cup’s season-ending “Duels at Dominion” begin this Saturday evening at Thornburg, Virginia’s 4/10ths mile Dominion Raceway. Both feature events are 50 laps in length and will be televised on MavTV on a tape delayed basis.
Following this weekend, Cox is scheduled to participate in several endurance road racing events in the USA before moving to competition in Europe with the Electric GT Championship this winter.
