The Super Cup Stock Car Series kicks off its inaugural Challenge Series season this weekend when the tour stops at Virginia's Old Dominion Speedway.

The Challenge is a separate mini-series that is distinct from the Super Cup championship. Challenge Series events are shorter, and the Challenge Series season itself is shorter with only three events on the schedule:

  • Old Dominion Speedway (VA), July 14
  • Midvale Speedway (OH), Aug 11
  • Lonesome Pine Raceway (VA), Oct 6

Challenge Series events are held on the same weekends as Super Cup races, allowing eligible teams to compete in both series.

Sopwith's Stephen Cox is competing in both series this season and expects to be a front-runner. He is vying for the Super Cup title, the Challenge Series title, and the Rookie of the Year title.

The team's goals for 2012 are to win one championship title, one or more races, and to average a Top 5 finish. At the midway point of the season, the team is in contention to reach every goal. Cox is 5th in Super Cup points, leads the rookie points, and has an average finish of 6th position.

Super Cup races are televised nationally on the TUFF TV network as well as Untamed Sports TV, America One Sports and Motorsportworld.tv.
