Sopwith Motorsports to Compete in Trophylite Class at Silver State

Sopwith Motorsports will vie for it’s first off-road victory in the Best in the Desert Racing Association’s Silver State 300 desert race on April 24th in Alamo, Nevada.

Veteran driver Stephen Cox will pilot the Sopwith/Trophylite truck in only his third start in a desert racing event. Cox posted a top ten finish in his first off-road outing at the 2008 Henderson Fabtech Desert Classic and drove the Kincaid Racing Trick Truck with team owner Scott Kincaid at this year’s Parker 425.

“The Trophylite series is becoming very popular,” said Cox, who will drive the event along with talented teammate Richard Cassey of 2XL Games. “The trucks are competitive, reliable and provide great racing so I’m looking forward to it.”

This will be Cox’s first start in the Silver State 300 as well as his first time in a Trophylite truck. Cox will be fitted into the truck on Thursday and log a few practice miles in preparation for Saturday’s 300-mile event. “It’s tough, but not impossible,” the 20-year veteran driver said. “I started on dirt, and then went to stock cars. Then I began competing on road courses, and now I’m desert racing. So I’m pretty accustomed to new racecars and new types of racing surfaces.”

Cassey’s career path has also taken him across the motorsports spectrum. He found success in both sprint cars and open wheel formula machines prior to his entry into off-road racing.

Sopwith cars have already raced to victory on dirt, asphalt ovals and road courses. Winning an off-road event would place the team in an elite category of racers to have posted wins in all four genres of motor racing.
