Sopwith Motorsports, the official media company for Best in the Desert, today announced plans to webcast four days of event coverage during next week’s TSCO Vegas to Reno “The Long Way” race (August 19-22). This is the first official webcast for the popular Vegas to Reno race and will be available live and free of charge on Sopwith’s website.
“We are excited to be giving fans unprecedented and live coverage of race events,” said Stephen Cox, Sopwith Motorsports CEO and executive producer. “Sopwith is continually working to make off-road desert racing more accessible to audiences while also creating opportunities to introduce the sport to the next generation of fans.”
Coverage kicks off on Wednesday as special guest host Genevieve Chappell (ESPN’s X-Games, Lucas Oil’s “On the Edge,” Outdoor Channel, Versus) anchors Contingency Day activities in Las Vegas. Ian Howard (Best in the Desert TV) and Cox will assume hosting duties for the remainder of the webcast, which includes start-line and finish-line coverage of race action each day, plus interviews with drivers, fans, and other event participants. Sopwith will stream the webcast using a single camera live format, with mobile units offering additional viewer vantage points.
“We are trying to raise the bar a bit with this webcast,” said Cox. “While still a traditional webcast, fans are going to experience some features that evoke television-style coverage such as field reports from the pit area, lower-third text and graphics used to identify drivers and teams, and interviews with top finishers.”
The free four-day live webcast is sponsored by BFGoodrich, Bully Dog Technologies, Torchmate CNC Cutting Systems, EVO Positive Energy, and Drench H20.
To view the free webcast, visit https://www.sopwithmotorsports.com/live/ on race days. No registration is required for viewing, although a high-speed internet connection is recommended and the latest version of Adobe Flash Player must be installed with the computer’s browser software. Once connected to the site, an embedded media player will allow fans to watch the race events, as they happen, in either standard or full-screen formats (up to a 500 kbps stream). Viewing the webcast using a handheld mobile device may not be possible due to technical and software limitations of such devices.
The Vegas to Reno race will also be featured in multiple episodes of the popular television program, Bully Dog Best in the Desert TV, which returns to the air in December on Fox Sports, the Outdoor Channel, MavTV and the America One Sports Network.
