Former GT Challenge road racing champion Stephen Cox will begin the 2016 season behind the wheel of RennsportKC Racing's Porsche 944S at the Circuit of the Americas.
The Grand Turismo of Texas is the first stop on the World Racing League's national tour, kicking off the year at America's finest road course in Austin, Texas with 85 other race entries. The event is comprised of two 8-hour endurance races held on consecutive days (February 13-14). Cox will be one of four team drivers including James Pasek, Wes McCullough and J. R. Pasek, and is expected to take the green flag with the first driving stint.
“I really want to thank Wes and everyone at RennsportKC for bringing me on board,” Cox said. “Rennsport of Kansas City runs an outstanding program. They bring their own staff of mechanics to each event and their cars are the class of the field.”
RennsportKC specializes in building, maintaining and racing European exotics, including the legendary Porsche marque. Their race-prepared 944S will compete in the WRL's premier GP1 division as part of a three-car team effort.
Cox is returning for his second year of competition in the WRL. His seven races in 2015 produced a remarkable seven Top 5 finishes, six podiums, three wins and a new track record at Michigan's Gingerman Raceway.
As always, Cox's ride is supported by his long time partners at Boschett Timepieces, McGunegill Engine Performance and Impact Race Products.
The Grand Turismo of Texas is the beginning of a busy racing season for Cox that includes stops at Circuit of the Americas, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the oval at Rockingham Speedway and much more. His 15-race schedule spans the eastern half of the country from Texas to Michigan, and from North Carolina to Iowa.
