The incredible story of Shelby Group 2 Ford Mustang chassis number 12 will be told in Mecum's new book by Stephen Cox, “The Group 2 Mustang Racer: Trans-Am Winner, Shelby Legend.”

Slated for release in January, “The Group 2 Mustang Racer” traces the competition record of one of the rarest Shelby's ever built. Driven by John McComb, the number 12 chassis was responsible for putting Ford Motor Company in a position to win the first SCCA Trans-Am championship at Riverside International Raceway in 1966.

Of equal interest is the re-discovery of this amazing car in a Houston storage facility in the 1980's, as well as the story of its restoration and reunion with the man who drove it to its brief moment of glory at the peak of American road racing.

Full details on how to find Stephen Cox's new book, “The Group 2 Mustang Racer” from Mecum Auto Auctions, will be made available shortly.
