After their Porsche 986 was sidelined with transmission troubles during practice, Sopwith’s Stephen Cox was picked up by Team Endurance BMW in last weekend’s Hunsaker USA Midwest Showdown at Raceway Park of the Midlands in Pacific Junction, Iowa (see highlight video below).
The World Racing League held a double event weekend, featuring a 9-hour endurance race on Saturday and a 7-hour event on Sunday. Despite front suspension issues with their BMW 325Is, Team Endurance posted a top five result in GP2 on Saturday, finishing 5th in class and 13th of 34 entries overall.
After working late into the night on Saturday to make front suspension repairs, the crew returned for Sunday’s 7-hour race and posted an even better result. Team Endurance scored their first podium finish in the series, finishing 3rd and in class and improving to 5th overall.
For Stephen Cox, the race marks his 5th podium finish in his last eight road course starts, including one win and setting fast time in two more races.
Cox’s next scheduled race is the Plasma-Tracks Trophy Run at Michigan’s Gingerman Raceway, August 29-30, where he will pilot a GP1 Corvette.
