Hallett Motor Racing Circuit near Tulsa, Oklahoma, is the track where Sopwith driver Stephen Cox won two championship titles in 2004 and he returns to the 1.7-mile road course for the first time in 2010.
This is just an elaborate test session for our project car, that's all," Cox said. "John Zenter (crew chief) and the guys in Oklahoma have had this car for a long time and done a wonderful job with it, but we're going to bring the car back to our Indianapolis race shop after this event. Our old Nissan is sort of a glorified go kart that I use between races to stay sharp. It's a fun car and we've won a ton of races with it. We may eventually return it to the Oklahoma shop, but I think we'll work on it in Indy over the winter and run a few more Midwest events with it next season."
This weekend's event is the 8th and final round of the Competition Motorsports Association's 2010 campaign, a race that Cox has won on two past occasions. "Hallett is a great little track," Cox continued. "It's got a lot of elevation change and it's pretty technical. The Stephens family has owned it for years. They're fantastic people who love grassroots racing. We're just going to go have some fun running the year's final event, then grab the car and bring it back to Indy."
Cox just returned from a top ten finish in the Trophylite off-road truck series at this month's Bluewater Desert Challenge in Parker, AZ. This marks his first return to a road course in four months and his final race of the 2010 season.
He will close out the year hosting HD Theater's Mecum Auto Auction in Kansas City in early December, while producing the Best in the Desert's "Transwest Henderson 250" off-road race for Fox Sports.
