As under-appreciated muscle cars go, the enigmatic Mercury Cyclone is about as obscure as they come. But I still love them.

Okay, here’s a list of questions that have come in by email (Stephen at sopwithmotorsports.com) and Twitter (@SopwithTV) since our last televised Mecum Auction.

On a cloudy Saturday morning in the late summer of 1966, Charlie Wright and five of his friends left Wichita with a new Shelby Mustang SCCA Group 2 racer loaded onto the back of their open trailer. They had no gas cans, no plan, no experience and little idea what they were doing.

On a hot summer afternoon in late August 1966, the telephone on John McComb’s desk rang.

Voila! After four hours of enjoyable motoring, one Starbucks Refresher and half a can of barbecue Pringles, I arrived in St. Charles, Illinois for last weekend's Mecum auto auction in abundantly high spirits. I'm telling you, driving is the only way to go. Not once was I ordered to put my seat back in the upright and locked position, nor was I scanned, groped or violated.

I have figured out what is wrong with America’s youth. They don’t race slot cars anymore.

The Mecum muscle car auction in Dallas last weekend offered perhaps the best parade of Ford Mustangs in recent memory; certainly the finest I've seen at an auction in the last two years.

I'd like you to conduct an experiment. Go to your local racetrack this weekend. Makes no difference if it's a drag strip, oval or road course, big or small. Just go.

Okay, I'm sitting in my hotel room after the auction last weekend jamming to Heart (“Crazy on You”) and it occurs to me how much I really love the Mecum Auto Auction held in Des Moines.
